WILBERT VOWELS
Wilbert John Vowels passed away peacefully at the West Parry Sound Health Centre with his family by his side, on Friday, January 9th, 2026. Age 86 years.
Dear son of the late Vernon and Mildred Vowels. Beloved husband of Jean (Aitchison) for 63 years. Loving father of Susan Vowels; the late Edward Vowels; and his daughter-in-law Laurie Vowels (Frank Day). Cherished Papa of Eddy Vowels, Melissa Vowels, and the late Graham Vowels; Allie Weeks (Colin Crawford), Terri Weeks (Shane Young); and Jacob Weeks. Dear Great-grandfather of Derek Vowels, Isaac Vowels, Zoe Vowels, and Jeana Allen. Dear brother of Greta Taylor (late Dennis), Norma Holmes (late Brian), the late Garnett Vowels (wife Sandra), and the late Glenna Vowels. Brother-in-law to Doug Aitchison (Beverly), Kathy Syme (late Jamie), and the late Dave Aitchison (survived by Dianne). Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Wilbert’s family would like to thank the medical community including Stacey, Debbie, Dr. Davis, and many others. A special thank you to Kevin Michaelis for all of his help and humour throughout his illness.
Wilbert was a TD Bank Manager who spent 29 years in Sault Ste. Marie prior to his retirement. He loved fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and summers at his cottage on Manitouwabing Lake. He was an active member in several service clubs during his life, most recently with the Dunahmic Snowriders Snowmobile Club. He loved living his retirement years on the family farm near McKellar, in the home he built overlooking the lake, with his daughter and her family next door.
As was his wish, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Wilbert’s life will take place at the McKellar Community Hall on Saturday, April 25th, 2026 from 12:30 – 3:30 P.M.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, or the Parry Sound Public Library would be appreciated.

On behalf of all current and past volunteers of Dun-Ahmic Snowriders Snowmobile Club, we offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Wilbert Vowels. Wilbert was President of the Club for many, many years and when he couldn’t any longer he remained our landlord. Wilbert and his family allowed us to use the farm, free of charge, to store and maintain our trail equipment until we recently moved. Every snowmobiler that’s ever traveled our trails in the past 30 years owes a lot to Wilbert and all he did to build the quality trails we have today. We won’t forget you Wilbert. Per the family wishes we have donated to WPSHC in Wilbert’s name.

Jean and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I didn’t meet Wilbert in person, I enjoyed gathering library books for him every week… and I especially looked forward to his book ratings and notes. Thank you so much for entrusting me to help out, even in the smallest capacity. Sending you all lots of healing hugs.

I am so sorry to hear of Wilbert’s passing. During the twenty years I worked with PSSD/OFSC D10, he was always there to lend a hand, offer sound business advice, and—most importantly—share a warm smile. He truly embodied the humility of a volunteer’s heart. His passion for hard, honest work has stayed with me throughout the years.

Wonderful and fond memories of Wilbert. He taught me how to sharpen a chain-saw and we spent a lot of time bragging about our Families. We shared stories about Banking, Sault Ste. Marie, and I loved learning about Farming, and all the other ‘outdoor stuff’. Unfortunately Paula and I won’t be able to attend the Celebration of Life as we will be away. We bought Wilbert’s cottage and the best part is: Wilbert came with it! He continued to look after it. Helped us repair things. Advised on projects always friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about how to get things done. We will miss him.
