Condolences

Wally was a very special individual, he had so many stories, memories and jokes to share. I will miss talking to him about things we did in our childhood and the happenings at and around Moose Deer Point. Wally was a down to earth spirit and he walked the talk. You will be missed Cuz. My condolences to all family, friends and the community of Moose Deer Point. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Baamaapii Wally

I did not know Wally as the man he became. My memories are of him as a boy. My dad would visit Uncle Lawrence and family, taking us kids with him. I recall this first cousin of mine being goofy and have a memory of him catching huge bull frogs. It sounds like he was well liked and that he loved the community. My sincere thoughts go to everyone whose lives were positively impacted by Wally.

I had the opportunity to chat with Wallace at the Shawanaga’s Elders Gathering back in March 2025. Wallace shared many stories of him and my late husband Howard. Wallace was a gentle man and will be missed by many. Sending my Condolences to the family.

I met Wallace in 2024 while helping out at the cottage estate property where he served for several decades as third generation caretaker. Wallace clearly took pride in his role doing upkeep projects and caretaking. A master of many trades, Wallace loved tools and was comfortable with landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tree work, and small engines, not to mention snake charming. Always a great story teller, Wallace was an encylopedia, detailing events and people and their legacy in the community. With a tendency to embellish details for effect, Wallace would have made an outstanding politician. Spotting a 12 foot+ long fox snake? Or spear fishing for 5′ muskie? A generous, patient, and reliable man, Wallace spoke of his faith in Jesus, in whom he found peace with God and the forgiveness that brings lasting reconciliation.

I appreciate reading what other’s have said about Wally. The history, the insights, stories that he would have shared. Being about the same age and spending summers at our place beside the Nesbitt’s, he was a daily fixture and sighting for us as he boated up and down (often several times a day). I would speak with him as I paddled by if he was working (always working!) near the shore. Other interactions were when he would come asking for my dad, “is Dr Geoff here, we have….(someone with fish hook to be removed, what have you). Both being quiet men of few words it was always with interest to see them speak with one another, sometimes at length. Dad died a month ago (at 98) and I think he would be so glad to meet him up ‘there’ and share stories from The Bay.
