1939 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Vic Brunatti announce his peaceful passing at home, on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judy, son Cory and daughter Gina (Steve). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Rachel, Eric and Elizabeth as well as his nephews Paul, David (Jodie) and John (Josee).
Vic was the youngest of 8 siblings. He was born in Depot Harbour but moved with the family into Parry Sound when he was 9 years old. He lived in Parry Sound for the rest of his life.
Throughout his high school years, Vic became known for his prowess at baseball and, given his height, basketball. He was also a very talented singer, trumpet player and drummer. Along with some of his high school friends, they formed the “Blue Barons” jazz group which played at local venues, Dunn’s Pavilion (now known as The Kee to Bala) and the Copperhead resort near San Souci. While he eventually stopped playing any musical instruments, he carried on singing for his remaining years.
He met Judy Trudeau when they both attended Parry Sound High School. They married on September, 4, 1961 and would rarely be apart over the next 64 years.
Vic began his work life at the family shoe store where he became well known for his work making orthotics and braces for young people who needed special shoes. In the mid-1970’s, along with his brother Joe, they saw the local economy changing and gradually shifted from shoes to boat tops. He would eventually find his way to McNabb’s Beaver Lumber/Home Building Centre where he remained until retiring at the age of 78. He was well known for his friendly, outgoing demeanor when dealing with his customers. Many noted his smile, warmth and big laugh and would seek him out specifically whenever they came into the store.
Vic’s love of life was always on display. In their younger years, he and Judy loved nothing more than to find a dance party on a Friday or Saturday night and spend the next few hours whirling around the dance floor. His friends often recounted over the years how the party didn’t get rolling until Vic and Judy showed up.
Vic was a faithful and active member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church for his entire life. He served the church as an altar boy from the time he was 10 years old until he was 83. He would also be a reader and Extra-ordinary Eucharistic Minister. Beyond that, he served on Parish Council and various fundraising committees which built the church hall, the new rectory and finally, the new church. He was also instrumental in establishing the local Council of the Knights of Columbus in 1978. He would serve the Council in the position of Grand Knight several times and would twice receive the Knight of the Year award. However, it would be his constant prayer life which not only influenced his children but also other members of the church and community. He lead by example when it came to practicing his faith.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Parry Sound on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. Reception to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
A private family interment will take place at Sylvan Acres Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Parry Sound or Parkinson Canada.

He dropped by around two weeks ago, it was nice to see him. I will miss him. He was a very nice caring man , always had a smile on his face with the caring look in his eyes. To Judy and family. Vic joined McNabb Lumber on July 29, 1985, and remained with us until June 30, 2017. Vic was 78 years old. A big laugh. A big smile and a greeting in rapid fire Italian. Vic was a huge part of our success. He was a literal window into the community for newcomers like us. He knew everybody through his families’s business. I loved his family stories of the Brunatti family settling in Depot Harbour. I recall him describing the spring melt rushing under the floor of their original home. What a guy! There wasn’t much he couldn’t do and he was always first to help. He loved his family, his friends; his community and his Church. We loved him back. Farewell old friend.

Judy and family, so sorry to hear the news of Vic’s passing. I worked with Vic at McNabb Lumber for many years. I will always see his great smile and hear his contagious laugh.
A few memories of a fine gentle man…at around 10:30 am Vic would often show up in the flooring department and if I wasn’t busy with a customer we would sit at my desk for coffee and a chat, have a few laughs and of course solve the world problems of the day. When my wife Jodi and I moved from our house into our new condominium, Vic sent a lovely plant to us ‘just because he cared’, a few months ago, I coincidentally met up with Vic at our doctor’s office and exchanged our usual conversation, ‘everyone in your family ok? all good with you? say hello to the wife for me’ etc. And to add to some of the things Vic would howl with laughter about, we now live in Callander, ON. and accidentally showed up for Vic’s funeral a week early – neither my wife or I read the date in the obit notice correctly and came to Parry Sound a week early – Vic wins! He got the last laugh in our most enjoyable relationship. May you rest in peace our good friend and may your family have peace in knowing how you touched our lives and many others in a very positive way. We are so sorry to hear of Vic’s passing and send our deepest condolences to all his large family. Vic was such a character- so full of humour and stories. Also a great historian. During the fundraising for the new hospital, Vic took many of us on fascinating tours of Depot Harbour and told us so much of the history of the now-ghost town where he grew up. RIP Vic.
