VI BARRON
Lavina Viola “Vi” Barron (nee Madigan) passed away quietly on October 12th, 2022 at Belvedere Heights, in her 99th year.
Beloved wife of the late Joseph George Barron. Loving mother of Sandra, John (Linda), Neil (Sharon), Mark, Glen (Patricia), Lee, Lynne, and Tracy. Cherished grandmother of 17 and great grandmother of 23. Loving daughter of the late Patrick Edward Madigan and Katy Land. Dear sister of the late Earl, Carl, Roy, and Elsie.
Viola “Vi” was born at home in Waubamik, Ontario on April 24th, 1924 and grew up in Pointe au Baril where she met her husband Joseph while working at the Ojibway Hotel. They married before he left to go overseas in 1942. Upon Joseph’s return, they purchased property and built a home in Britt. Together they became the Lightkeepers at Gereaux Island in 1946 and only spent the winters in the newly built home. After the sudden death of Joseph in 1967, Vi continued raising the six younger children, (the baby only 18 months old), working various jobs over the years and for many years she held three jobs at once. Vi was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #591 Britt, for 61 years where she held many chairs including President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a life member of the Britt Seniors and a member of the Pointe au Baril Seniors and attended both on a regular basis until her health prevented her from doing so. A devoted Christian, Vi was a member the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Parry Sound.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Belvedere Heights for their wonderful and thoughtful care, especially during the Covid crisis. We also appreciate the communication from the nurses as mom’s condition changed. The love, compassion and care that the staff gave to her did not go unnoticed. Thank you all so much!
A Celebration of Vi’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Britt on April 29, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Britt Nursing Station would be appreciated.

So sorry for your loss your mom was a beautiful lady. Very well respected. God bless her
-Wanda garonAlways a sad time when loved ones pass. We knew aunt Vi for many years and spent many times at the Ligthouse. She could do anything and was very independent. Her blueberry pie was special. She also had a goat out at the Lighthouse that would chase you. To all the Barron family (my cousins), take comfort Aunt Vi is at peace in a better place. She won't have to light the ranges anymore.
