Timothy John Shamess passed away suddenly at Toronto Western Hospital on March 1, 2026, at the age of 59, with his family by his side.

Beloved husband of Terry-Lynn Lyon of 37 years. Loving father of Amanda (Kyle), Becky, and Kira Stevenson. Devoted companion to Primrose the St. Bernard and the late Daisy the Great Pyrenees. Proud Papa to Aric and Dustin, Margot, Elizabeth, and James. Tim was the youngest sibling of Albert, Cathy, Mike, Robert, and Elizabeth. A beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, both related and chosen. He was a lifelong best friend to Craig Ruggles, Kerry and Kevin Laframboise, and a friend to many more than he likely ever realized. He is now reunited with his parents, Frances and Albert Shamess.

Tim was a gifted writer and a master of sarcasm. His trademark moustache, his love of all things Sasquatch, and his ability to make any room laugh are details that will live on in the countless stories shared about him. And much like the stories he loved to tell; he will now be remembered through ours. Through laughter, through retelling, through the kind of humour that sneaks up on you when you need it most.

Though quiet at first, that never lasted long.  He was the person who would help without hesitation, show up when it mattered, and later turn the whole interaction into a cleverly written Facebook post. His hilariously crafted texts and messages, perfectly timed, perfectly sarcastic will be deeply missed by everyone lucky enough to receive one.

His favourite place was Georgian Bay: steeped tea in hand, near the water, on a motorcycle, fishing line cast, good music playing. He was often described as a big teddy bear, steady, kind, and always ready to help a friend in need.

In keeping with the way he lived, generous and giving, his final gift was as a registered organ donor, helping several people in need. This was exactly what he would have wanted.

We’ll keep telling your stories, even the ones you might have preferred we didn’t.

Tim’s family would like to thank the ICU team at Toronto Western Hospital for their care, compassion, and for creating a space where we could surround him with love.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
