The Sacred Journey of the Drop ( as inspired by Rumi, a 13th century Sufi) When you are born, you are like a single drop of water that has left the infinite ocean of consciousness. You fall from the Great Mystery—not as something separate, but as something sent. Sent with purpose. Sent with intention. Sent with the sacred task of experiencing life through the lens of individuality. In that moment, the drop becomes a “you.” You become a name, a body, a story. You begin to feel joy and pain, light and shadow, truth and illusion. But make no mistake—what animates you is not the name, not the body, not the ego. It is the Ocean itself, flowing through the form of a single drop. You see, consciousness can only know itself through experience. And so it sends itself—fragmented, but never broken—into this world, into these illusions of separation, into the dream of duality, just so it can feel what it already knows, and become what it already is. Every heartbreak, every triumph, every sacred breath you take is the Ocean learning to dance in finite form. Then one day, the drop returns. The veil dissolves. Death comes—not as an end, but as a remembering. The drop, having tasted the salt and the sweetness of life, merges again with the vast, eternal sea from which it came. But now, the Ocean is deeper. Wiser. Richer for what the drop has seen, felt, endured, and loved. This is why birth is sacred. This is why death is holy. This is why every moment in between is a divine opportunity. You were never just the drop. You were always the Ocean… remembering itself.

I met Sue in many different public situations and realized quickly that her energy had its own forcefield, like a magnet. She radiated good humour and high spirits, whether it be at a Book Talk she gave to Orillia Presbyterian Church (St.Andrews) ladies, at a concert at The Opera House, at Mariposa, or sharing her adventures in conversation on Facebook. She is gone too young, but she will find a way to make this as positive as possible. I wish all her family the very best of memories of Sue. She will always be with you.

I met Sue around 2009 at a trade show in Whitby Ontario. At that occasion there was a gentleman selling carved angels out off Olive Wood from Bethlehem. I was compelled to purchase one and gave it to Sue. I know she kept that angel and shared it with her mom. She brought it back after her mom’s passing. Now Sue has become that angel. My memory of Sue. A beautiful soul who will be forever remembered by those she touched. May the good lord comfort those who mourn.

The moment I met Sue at her beloved cottage just up the road from ours, I was inspired to entertain the idea of walking the Camino. She had just produced her audio storybook “Stone by Stone” and was promoting it at the little shop in Washago. Much much later in my life I said yes to strapping on my own knapsack & since I’ve walked the trail 5x! I know very well why Sue fell in love with the life of a pilgrim. And it was exactly 20 years ago when I joined Sue for my very first spiritual workshop held at her cottage called “Journey To The Soul”… what transpired over the course of a few days helped shape the rest of my life. I subsequently left my big corporate job & had the courage to create my own yoga studio!! Later on when Sue was doing her initial Wim Hof Teacher Training.. I assisted Sue at her first Montreal weekend WH workshop. Sadly I never got to cold plunge in the icy water of Lake Couchiching. I did however follow in your footsteps to attend a 10-day Vipassana & walked barefoot round and round the trail in the snow! Sue… I miss you. Very sad. I met Sue in Orillia last winter and when I arrived at the restaurant I was meeting her I followed her footsteps. I was amazed how the cold weather didn’t stop her from going barefoot. Am very sad to learn of Sue’s passing ( Thank you Tom Beshoff) Sue was part of a very special rowing team who impressively won at the 2001 FISA World Masters regatta at Montreal. Our time preparing for that regatta in both the Women’s Eight in which Sue rowed in and the Beer Can guys ( Judy Greg Roelof Barry & Tom ) were very precious to all of us during that campaign and in our memories since then. A very special group of people who all found each other at the same time created great friendships and memories on the water and off around that time.
