Viola Ruth (McCord) Alexander passed away peacefully at Lakeland Long Term Care on Monday, June 2^nd, 2025. Aged 94 years.

Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) George Alexander. Loving mother of Margaret Anne and her husband Bob Colbear; Peter and his wife Fran; and Judy and her husband Nick Ryeland. Loving Grandma of Rebecca (Becky) and Kimberly. Sam, Adam, Geoff, and Connor. Loving Great Grandma to Matthew and Timothy; Andrew and Audrey; Paige and Nathan; and Nicole, William, and Grace. Dear sister of William (Billy) McCord and the late Margaret Mather. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ruth dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving behind an enduring legacy of love and kindness. Known for her warm smile, unwavering support, gentle spirit, and her sense of humor, she was passionate about her family and was the ultimate hostess. She enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, and was committed to her volunteer work. Ruth was a woman who gave of herself having received Life Service Awards, and acclaim, for her over 40 years as a member of the Hospital Auxiliaries Association of Canada, and as a Charter Member of United Church Women within the United Church of Canada. Ruth was recognized for garnering a petition of more than 20,000 signatures as the Queensway General Hospital advocate in keeping the facility open. She, affectionately known as “Ruthless”, always had a listening ear, a comforting hug, a witty joke for everyone, and she cherished spending time with her family and friends. We will always remember her fabulous hosting skills and in particular for the way she would prepare a “snack board”, what we like to consider the original charcuterie board, before it became a popular thing. She taught us all the skills needed to create a loving, connected family and most importantly, how to be kind and generous in life. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

As was her wish, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ruth’s life will take place at a later date.
