RUSTY McCLASKIN
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rusty Daniel Clayton McClaskin on July 27, 2026, at West Parry Sound Health Centre, with his daughters, Jacklynn and Cherelle, and his beloved cousin Joy by his side, each holding his hands until the very end.
Rusty was predeceased by his beloved mother, June McClaskin, and his oldest daughter, Amanda. He leaves behind the loves of his life, his daughters Jacklynn Hirschfeld-McClaskin (Melissa) and Cherelle McClaskin (Andrew Healey). He is also survived by his daughter Ashley McClaskin and her four sons. Rusty was the proud Papa to Charlotte, affectionately known as “Boo” by him, who will forever remember her Papa through bird watching, picking rhubarb together, and their many road trip adventures. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren Jennifer, Troy, Zoe, and Rue, and by his great-grandson Elias.
No obituary would be complete without mentioning Timber, Rusty’s faithful sidekick and best friend. Timber will miss the daily car rides, fishing trips, and eagerly waiting by the door whenever Rusty came home carrying that special shopping bag, knowing it almost always held a brand-new toy just for him. Rusty will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched over the years.
Throughout the Georgian Bay, Rusty was known as one of the area’s finest marine mechanics. If your boat broke down, you needed a hard-to-find part, or you hit a rock and destroyed a propeller, Rusty was the person everyone called. His knowledge, skill, and willingness to help others earned him the respect of boaters from all over the Bay.
Above all else, Rusty was a devoted father. He loved his girls fiercely and would do anything for them. He was a strong, determined man who worked hard every day and played even harder. His love of hunting and fishing took him all over Georgian Bay, and anyone who hunted with him knew there wasn’t a better shot around.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff of the Ambulatory Care Unit at West Parry Sound Health Centre for the kindness, compassion, and exceptional care they showed Rusty throughout his treatments over the past several months. We also wish to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses, and healthcare teams who cared for him during his hospital admission, his time in the ICU, and finally in Palliative Care. Your compassion, dignity, and support meant more to our family than words can ever express.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Rusty’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Britt, on Sunday, September 13th, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. Family and friends are invited to gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who left an unforgettable mark on so many lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rusty’s memory to Canadian Blood Services, in recognition of the many blood transfusions that extended his time with those he loved, or to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, whose compassionate staff provided exceptional care throughout his journey.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing Rusty has found peace. His strength, generosity, sense of humour, and unwavering love for his family will live on in all who knew him.

We will both miss Rusty with all our heart. He was always the first person to come and great us when we came to the trailer. Loved his sense of humour, laughter and gossip that left us with a great start to our stay at the trailer. Most of all, he would always be there for us if we had a problem with the boat. Because of him our old boat would always start on the first turn of the engine, We loved going over to his home for the fish fries and games. Introducing us to new friends each time we visited. He had a love for fishing, hunting, and the beauty of Georgian Bay, but nothing meant more to him than his children. He was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without ever expecting anything in return. We had the absolute privilege of meeting Rusty about seven years ago when we came to St. Amants trailer park. We are beside Rick & Lee and we were introduced to Rusty through them. He was an amazing, friendly, generous, kind person who just was happy to see everyone. He welcomed us. He helped us. We laughed together and had a lot of fun. We will miss him very very much.
