Condolences

So sorry to hear. Penny meant the world to many of the students from Wasauksing. She will be missed. As they say, Baamaapii!

Dear Penny, You were a gift from God to your family and your friends and all those who came into contact with you. You were a very positive person and a very happy person for the most point. You fought a good battle right up until the end. You’re home now with your mom and dad and the good Lord and all your friends and family who went before you. Your mom and the Lord were waiting for you when it was your time to be called home. They were reaching their hands down and tried to grab your hands and telling you not to let go so they could take you home to the Kingdom of Heaven where you never be in pain again. You will be missed by your family and friends here on earth, but I know they know you are in a better place than what you were over the last year or so. They will always carry you in their heart just as you will carry them in yours. You will show them signs along the way that you are close to them and can see what they do from day to day. God has blessed you Penny by taking you home and he will bless your family and your friends to help process their loss. It’s not going to be easy for anybody, but knowing that you’re no longer in pain makes a big difference in my frame of mind. Your family and friends will all see you again when it is time to end their journey here on Earth. My condolences to all family and friends as you Penny’s passing, but both small. Remember that she’s no longer suffering and she’s home were you’ll see her again someday! 🙏🤗❤️

To Tony and the girls, I worked with Penny for a short time while at AHSS, she was absolutely wonderful to work with, funny, blunt, compassionate, and had an uncanny ability to connect with our hardest to serve students. I met Penny in grade 6 at The Drop, immediately from there she was my reason. She helped me get school supplies for starting Grade 7 at the high school when we didn’t have enough money for the fancy calculator I needed for math. When I had gotten suspended multiple times, instead of seeing the misbehaved teenager, she saw the kid who was barely getting out of bed in the morning and was retaliating against people bullying her. When I had no one and had almost lost my life, she sat with me and talked with me about the situations bothering me over and over again until I was okay- even if that meant after school hours or being on the phone when she was on her way home. In the summer after Grade 8, she came to visit me at my work when she was on leave, my number had changed after being harassed and she had no idea how to get a hold of me and wanted to make sure I was okay.
Sometimes I would come into school so tired that she would let me just sleep, or if I just needed to breathe and she’d let me sit in the for the whole day if I needed it. When I was couch hopping she just knew without me having to tell her, she got me everything I needed. Even food when I said I wasn’t hungry, she would say “take whatever with you for the road, take the good snacks while you can” so that I wasn’t malnourished with my blood pressure issues. She never judged and always knew how to make light of unfortunate situations the cheer people up with that giggly grin of hers, you’d be able to tell it was coming when she couldn’t stop herself from smiling before saying whatever sarcastic response she decided to come up with lol Penny made sure no one fell though the cracks and always made sure we were listened to when nobody else would, she is and was my why. Even if she doesn’t get to see me walk the stage, I know she’ll be there anyways to be there for me and all of her other work kids. We all love her so so much, and the part of her in us will never ever be replaced. Thank you Penny for getting me this far and never giving up on me when you easily could have, I love and miss you so much.

Dear Tony, Kaitlyn, and Laura, I was heartbroken to learn of Penny’s passing. My heart goes out to all of you during this incredibly difficult time. I had the privilege of knowing Penny during some of the most difficult years of my childhood. She welcomed me into her life first through the girls’ group home she ran, and later into your family as a foster child. Her kindness, patience, and unconditional love changed my life in ways I will never be able to fully express. Penny made me feel safe, seen, and valued. She believed in me when I struggled to believe in myself, and she always reminded me that I was worthy of love and kindness. Those gifts have stayed with me throughout my life, and I carry them with me to this day. I will always be grateful that our paths crossed.
