NIILO SIMOLA

Niilo Walter Simola passed away peacefully at the West Parry Sound Health Centre on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, at the age of 91.

Beloved husband of the late Connie Simola. Loving father of Brian, Brinda, and the late Trudy. Cherished grandfather of Dylan, Tyler (Laura), and Harley. Dear great grandfather of Jordan. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Niilo was born in Noranda-Rouyn, Quebec, in 1934, where his parents, Nikolai and Hilma, worked at a lumber camp. As a child the family moved to McKellar, then into Parry Sound. There, Niilo met Connie, and they were married for 68 years until her passing. They moved to Nipigon and had three children, Brinda, Trudy (deceased), and Brian.  After a few years they returned to live in Foley Township for the remainder of their lives.

Niilo worked for hydro as a teen but achieved his papers as a stationary engineer. He worked in Red Rock, and at both the St. Joseph’s and General Hospitals when he returned to Parry Sound. He also went to Tuktoyaktuk for several months as part of a building crew.

Niilo was an avid golfer and cross-country skier. He was also a member of the local CB club and ham radio club.

He is survived by his son Brian Simola, daughter Brinda Higgins, grandsons Dylan, Tyler (Laura) and Harley Higgins, and great grandson. He is pre-deceased by his wife Connie, daughter Trudy, brothers Tauno (Linda), Taito (Christine) and sister Leah.

A Graveside Service and Interment will take place at Foley Memorial Cemetery on Thursday, April 30th at 2:00 P.M.

In remembrance of Niilo, donations to Alzheimer Society Muskoka would be appreciated.

Condolences

Brian
I am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Niilo and I had a few good laughs in the few years that I knew him. I will always remember him sitting in memory lane and me singing Elvis to him he actually blushed. You were a good son to your dad and I hope the memories will help you through this difficult time. Gone but never forgotten fly high Niilo

Dear Brian and Brinda. We are sorry to hear of your dad‘s passing. Niilo was a fine person . Richard and Niilo had some good years together on the Foley Fire Department. Good memories from those times. We also enjoyed your mom. We ran into them several times over the years, sometimes on the Seguin Trail when they had a place there. They were a fine couple.
Sincerely Pat and Richard Poole

Brian, I am very sorry to hear about your dad. You were a terrific son to him and always there visiting and caring for him. I liked your dad. He had spunk. I will always remember sitting outside sometimes at Lakeland with my mother and Niilo in their wheelchairs – soaking up the sun and eating Werthers candies.

-Jaye Tuck

Brian, I just learned of your dad’s death. You were a loyal and steadfast son. I was witness to all your loving care. You could not have done more. Praying that you will find peace as you manage the huge void in your life purpose now. Hoping you can find comfort in the knowing that your dad is at peace. Jane Jones
