Safe in the Arms of Jesus

Marie Arlee (Shalanko) Wiersma passed away peacefully, at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Friday, December 22, 2017, in her 89th year, and joined her beloved husband Hessel Wiersma. Dear mother of Christina and Ray Rheault, and their daughter Mireille; Jonathan and Natalie Wiersma, and “Oma” to their children Elora, Ethaniel and Benjamin. Dear daughter of the late John and Anna Shalanko. Dear sister of Kay and (John) Fortney, Irene and (Joe) Iannuzzelli, Leonard and (Colleen) Shalanko, Elnora and (Nick) Semeniuk, Louise and Bill Newbrough, and the late Vera Shalanko, Diane and Steve Elenko, Danny and Joyce Shalanko, Ruth and Fritzie Compisano, Jack and Ruth Shalanko and Neela Norman. Fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, other relatives, former teaching colleagues, church family and many beloved friends. She was a teacher, Pastor, Chaplain, coach, pioneer and mother to many.

Family and friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 81 James Street, Parry Sound, on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

A Service of Remembrance will take place at 12:00 noon in the Logan Memorial Chapel, followed by a reception. Special thanks to the staff at West Parry Sound Health Centre Hospital, and the Britt and Area Fire Department for all the care and assistance.

A celebration of Marie's Life will take place in Britt at a later date.
