LYNN McEWEN

Lynn Ruth McEwen (nee Johnson) of Dunchurch, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, July 24th, 2024 at the West Parry Sound Health Centre. Age 72 years. Beloved wife of Joseph McEwen for 53 years.

Born in 1951 in Parry Sound, she was the beloved daughter of the late Harry and Frances Johnson. Cherished mother of Melanie (Ryan) and Matthew (Sarah). She was a proud Nana to Alandra, Nicholas, Joey, and Tommy. Lynn was a loving sister to Ron (the late Linda), Ann (David), and Randy (Sue). She was also a sister-in-law to the late James, Ann (the late Bill), the late Arthur (Janet), Tony (Ray), Bruce, the late Ernie (Donna), and Doug (Renee). Additionally, she was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many.

After graduating from York University, Lynn worked in the Toronto area before moving with her husband Joe to Dunchurch to start their family. She served as the Manager of District Social Services for East and West Parry Sound before retiring to pursue her passions for gardening, spending time with her grandchildren, and extensive volunteer work. Lynn dedicated over 40 years to volunteer work, significantly contributing to the Dunchurch Knox United Church, United Church Women, and the Dunchurch Agricultural Society. She actively participated in parent councils and fundraising activities at both local elementary and secondary schools. Her exceptional commitment to the community was recognized when she was recently awarded Senior of the Year by the Municipality of Whitestone.

Lynn loved to travel with her husband Joe, especially enjoying their trips to Reno to visit their son Matt and his family. She was a cornerstone of the Dunchurch community, fondly known as the "lasagna lady" for her generous spirit and willingness to help others in need.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at West Parry Sound Health Centre and Health Sciences North, the Municipality of Whitestone local fire department, Parry Sound EMS, and home care providers. Special thanks to Lynn's wonderful sister Ann, who was always present and provided incredible support. We are profoundly thankful for the care and kindness during this time.

Lynn's life was a testament to kindness, love, and service. She was undoubtedly an important person in many lives and will be greatly missed.

Psalm 23: "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

Friends will be received at the Logan Funeral Home, 81 James Street, Parry Sound on Wednesday, July 31st from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.

A Celebration of Lynn’s Life will take place in the Logan Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 31st at 12:00 noon.

Joe, Melanie, Matthew & family: know you are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Lynn's kind heart & warm personality were evident from the time we met in 2000 through our work affiliation until she retired. She was a lady who genuinely cared & connected with people regardless of their circumstances. Lynn positively impacted the lives of those around her - including her staff & the individuals/families who relied on the programs provided by the DSSAB. She advocated for change to improve outcomes that would better support the residents in the east/west of the Parry Sound District. Before she retired, Lynn made it her mission to get approval from the board so that requests for dentures could be considered & she succeeded! This was a game changer that helped many - IYKYK. Her vibrant, spunky personality, caring nature, & flare for fashion will be missed by many

72 years feels like a life time, till we get there and it doesn’t feel long enough. So sorry for your loss. It isn’t a coincidence that my middle name is Lynn. My mother had a great fondness for Lynn and when I came along, it was obvious to her, Lynn’s name had to belong to me.
