KAI KRISTIAN MALMSTROM
Kai Kristian Malmstrom passed away peacefully with his closest family by his side, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, on Thursday, August 28th, 2025. Age 62 years.
Kai left in deep mourning his loved and cherished wife Cheryl Malmstrom.Forever missed and loved by his mother Kaarina Malmstrom and his step-father Brian Chamberlain. Pre-deceased by his father Harri Malmstrom. Dear brother of Kari Malmstrom (Gaetanne). Kai was so loved and will be missed by his in-laws, Larry and Marie Fletcher. Survived by his son Nick (Samantha), daughter Kylie, step-son Benjamin Kewaquado, and step-daughter Jessica Kewaquado (Troy). Proud and loving grandfather of Andrew (Maddy), Brody, Layla, Henley, Bowen, and Sosi. Kai spoke highly about his best friend Mick Edington (Christine), and his extended family, and would have loved to be able to say “Thank you for being there” for him.
Kai was always happy, up-beat and very positive, despite the battle that Kai fought as a quadriplegic for 36 years. Kai had worked full time at Oastler and Springwater Provincial Parks as well as 17 years working at Rona, where Kai was well respected and made many friends along the way.
Kai’s family would like to thank the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre I.C.U. nurses, St. Elizabeth Health Care nurses, and his Personal Support workers who helped give him the best quality of life over the years.
As was his wish, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

He was such a delight to talk to, anytime I was having a bad day- our conversation always turned it around as Kai had a way with words.
