JEAN PICKLES

Margaret “Jean” Pickles (nee: Holmes) passed away peacefully at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, at the remarkable age of 101.

Jean was the beloved wife of the late Jack Pickles and a devoted mother to Larry (the late Cheryl), Lana (Rick), Jack (Wendy), and Darcy (Tammy). She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Jody (Rick), Darcy (Kim), Josh, Tanya (Shawn), Kyle (Charlotte), Mike, Brandee (Paul), Steven, Jen (Ryan), Natasha (Deric), Tyana (Mike), Colton (Dani), and Kyla (Jayme). Jean was also a much-loved great grandmother to 30 great grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy. Dear sister to Anita, Herb (Karen), and the late Doris Ann, Eileen, Jack, Chuck (survived by wife Marilyn), Marg, and Bob. Predeceased by her parents Ralph “Tuck” and Margaret Holmes. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Jean lived a long life filled with determination, humour, and an unmistakable spark. Sharp as a tack and wonderfully feisty right until the very end, she had a way of keeping everyone on their toes. Together, she and Jack shared a love of travelling and were proud, dedicated members of the Royal Canadian Legion. One of their favourite traditions was visiting Legions wherever their travels took them, and signing guest books along the way – a simple tradition that reflected their love of adventure and the friendships they made throughout the years.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care team at the West Parry Sound Health Centre for their exceptional care, kindness, and compassion shown to Jean and her family during her final days. Your support brought comfort when it was needed most and will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Jean’s Life will take place at Bayside Family Church on Saturday, August 29th from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M.

Interment Hillcrest Cemetery.

As was Jean’s wish, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jean’s Life and interment at Hillcrest Cemetery will be held at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated.

You may send your donation directly through the charity’s web-site, or if you require assistance with your donation, please call us at 705-746-5855 Monday to Friday during regular office hours.

To everyone who loved her so much my heart aches for all. For myself too as she was my mother in law years back. Jean was a special person. She loved her family more than anyone could. To be with us til so close to 102 shows the determination she had. I will always remember her.
