We are so very sorry to hear about Greg . Some of our fondest memories are of going to see movies at The Strand and being greeted with a smile by Greg, followed by a “That’ll be twenty thousand dollars!” I think part of the reason we enjoyed our small town cinema so much was because of his friendly and outgoing demeanor. The passing of Greg is without a doubt one that many in Parry Sound will feel. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. May Greg rest in peace.

Memories Fill Our Hearts.
When we think of Greg our first thoughts go to seeing him at the Strand Theatre in the ticket booth greeting all the Movie Going Crowd. He would always greet us with ” 2 seniors?” and we would laugh each summer and fall as it was a great joke at the time. Until it wasn’t and we were actually Seniors!!!
He would be waiting at the end of each show to ask us what we thought of the movie. He would especially be “grinning” if it happened to be a scary movie because he knew I hated them. He was so very proud of his Theatre and more than happy to talk movies. Past and what was coming next.
Our next strongest memory that will keep us going are of the dozens of Sunday Suppers we shared at Summers Pointe with Greg, Karen, the kids and Bob and Gail McKowen.
We would sit on the dock sharing a wine or beer or two and just enjoy each others company.
Greg and Karen opened their home to us for many suppers. Greg was always beside me at the table. We all enjoyed his company, smiles, humour and laughter.
We miss you already. You are a kind sole.
I know you are sitting in the “Big Cinema” in the sky looking down on your Family. Who’s hearts break for you’
Don’t worry Greg; rest in peace. We will take care of them for you.
All our love: Jeanette and Trevor Weber

Karen, and family. My condolences on the passing of Greg. He will be forever remembered with genuine care and fondness. Greg was always a friendly and familiar face when I worked at the bank and I always enjoyed serving him and chatting. May he rest well now and watch over you’s as you navigate a new life with his memory in the forefront.

Greg Hobson was one of the kindest human beings I had the pleasure of having in my life. I was one of a pack of teenagers that Greg employed from 1984-1987. He was an excellent employer, teaching social skills & good values. He was also a friend, protector, mentor & guide to many of us. I can’t imagine the shock to his family & though your hearts are heavy today, time will lighten the weight with the happy memories of all the yesterdays. Rest in peace old friend, until we meet again, Christine Barager.

-Christine Barager

I was so very sorry to hear of Greg’s passing. My deepest condolences to his family. I was a regular at the Strand for years, watching it change from a single large theatre into two smaller ones. Going to the movies was my night out, as I was a stay-at-home Mom, I’d watch both the 7 and 9 o’clock shows. Greg even allowed me to stay a few times when no one else had shown up (if there was a snow storm etc ). He could have closed up and gone home, but he was kind enough to let me stay and watch the show. Where else, but in a small town could you get a private showing. I miss those days.

-Kassandra Baker

Very sorry for your loss. I was surprised to hear of Greg’s passing. I didn’t know him well. I knew him through the Strand and his lock smithing ability.
Too young!
