It is with deep, aching sadness that the family of Anthony “George” Fells announces his passing at Belvedere Heights Long Term Care on Thursday, August 13th at the age of 93. He died peacefully during his afternoon snooze – the best way. He was an adoring husband for 64 years to Kittie-Marie, an amazing father to Emily (Ghislain) and Duncan (Genevieve), and the charming and fun-loving Grapa to Mathieu, Claire (Shawn), Vivi, Charlie and Grace.

Born in Bristol, England in 1933, George moved around the country with his mother seeking safety from WW2. At 18, he did his required 2 yr Military Service, spending the second year as a foot soldier in Korea, fighting with the British Commonwealth Forces where he was drawn to the happy, rugged, fun-loving Canadians. Upon completing an MA at Oxford, he immediately emigrated to Canada to put down roots. After various jobs in marketing and market research, he worked as an Investment Officer in the Toronto office of the British venture capital company Charterhouse. He had found his niche. Soon after, he founded SB Capital Corp in 1972 and later North American Ventures. He loved his work as a consultant in small business development for the World Bank. Once retired, he turned his energy to his poetry, print making, The Quetico Foundation, and starting The Georgian Bay Osprey Society with Kittie-Marie. He revelled in his happy places, Mono township and the Georgian Bay, with Kittie-Marie, his children and grandchildren.

He touched the lives of so many people in his personal, business, and community involvement roles. He will be remembered for his kindness, easy sharing of expertise, his sense of humour, his keen interest in people, his delightful poetry for many occasions and the pure delight he radiated while dancing on the rocks, under the stars, at the annual Regatta party at Go Home Bay. “Row, George, row!” Row on to the resting place for wonderful humans!

A special thanks goes out to all the staff at Belvedere Heights LTC, Parry Sound, for the love and care they showed Dad and continue to give to my mother.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 6 Church St., Parry Sound, on Friday September 11th, at 11:00 A.M. Following the service, please join us for a light luncheon in the Church basement. Bring a short anecdote, story or poem about the George you knew, to share or leave with the family. The service will also be live streamed on the Trinity Church Facebook page, and the recording of the service will be available shortly after.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Georgian Bay Land Trust which protects the place he loved, or the Forest School of Parry Sound, where children are encourage to play in, and love nature.
