The McKellar Agricultural Board lost an honorary member this week and The McKellar Fall Fair lost an icon that can never be replaced💔
Garnett Vowels was the face, the voice and the heart and soul of the McKellar Fall Fair for over 45 years. His dedication and knowledge was truly remarkable. This year we will celebrate the fair in honour of him, with a tear and a smile. I’m sure he will be the talk of the fair, with so many wonderful memories to share of such a great man. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and fair attendees💔
Personally- a man I truly admired. A husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and community member who was always there. He leaves behind a huge hole in so many hearts. Rest peacefully, Uncle Garnett, and shine down on us as we celebrate the 150th Fall Fair with your spirit beside us. 💕

Norm and I send our sincere condolences to the Vowels Family. My earliest memory of Garnet was when he and I represented our schools McKellar and SS No 5 Hagerman (Sunny Slope) respectively as 1957 Ontario Spelling Bee School Champions, we both “spelled out” in the Parry Sound Contest but his smiles on that stage were infectious. All through his life he wore a smile. Our thoughts are with you.

Working with Garnett was really great. He had a good sense of humor and had a knack for keeping the office running smoothly. There was always someone who was in urgent need of the supplies they ordered through Garnett. His pat answer was that their order would be in on Tuesday. We tried hard not to smirk and say ‘we’ve heard that one before’. Fitting that his service is on a Tuesday. We respected Garnett and will make a donation in his honor.

Dear Tammy and family, Richard and I send our sincere sympathy to you all in the passing of Garnet. He was a wonderful guy. We remember him so fondly from our very early teaching days in the 60’s and 70’s. He was always so friendly and supportive to us as part of the educational scene. He was also a great advocate of the McKellar FallFair which we visited several times at his beckoning. You will miss his cheeriness and his presence so very much we know. Your memories of happy times and the support of your large family will help to support you all through these days. Sincerely, Pat and Richard Poole

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Garnet’s passing. We have known each other since high school days, and played hockey together for a number of years. I always appreciated his wry sense of humor. RIP Garnet.
