DONALD McKENZIE

Donald Carlyle McKenzie
1934 – 2024

It is with profound sadness that we share with you the passing of our beloved brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and husband. Don Carlyle McKenzie left us peacefully on Tuesday September 24th, 2024 at the age of 90.

Don was born in Guelph Township in 1934 to Murray and Florence McKenzie. Don was the first of four siblings, known as Pappy to his friends and Poppy to his family. Don shared many years of love with his first wife, Barb, raising a strong family together. Barb passed away in 1992, leaving behind a cherished legacy of love. In the years that followed, Don was blessed to find love once again, marrying his devoted wife, Joan. Together, they shared 26 wonderful years of happiness, companionship, and mutual support.

Don was a dear brother of Evie Oates (Fred) and the late Dorothy and Isabel. Don was a proud and loving father to Ken (Judy), Deb Payne (Michael), Donna Cheyne (Dave), and Dwayne (Tecia), and an adored grandfather to Becky, Josh, Dylan, Haley, Mac, Owen, Lauren, Dawson, Carter, and a cherished great-grandfather to Hanna, Grayson, Harper, Isla, Reese, and Oliver. His family was the light of his life, and he found immense joy in spending time with them, whether it was playing cards, fishing, or gathering around a campfire. For Poppy, life was always at its best when surrounded by his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

He will forever be remembered for his deep love of family, his gift for storytelling, his infectious sense of humor, and his unwavering determination to live life on his own terms. His remarkable stories, full of laughter and wisdom, will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Don leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Rest in peace, Don “Poppy” McKenzie. You will remain forever in our hearts.

Family and Friends will be received for visitation at the Logan Funeral Home on Monday September 30th from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Funeral Service will take place in the Logan Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 30th at 1:00 P.M., followed by reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Don’s honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, or a charity of your choice.

We are so sorry to hear of Pappy’s passing. We had the pleasure of knowing Pappy for almost 50 years. I had the joy of playing hockey and baseball with and against Pappy, it was much better playing hockey WITH Pappy, his stick was still pretty sharp even towards the end of his playing days. RIP Pappy, you were a good man and will be missed by many. 😢

Sending deepest condolences to the McKenzie family on the loss of Don. Many great memories from back in my baseball days. He was always a great coach and friend to all and had a lot of funny jokes and sayings. He will surely be missed xo

I was honored to have spent time with Don on a trip to Alaska. He was a lot of fun and we frequently shared a few laughs together and many beers. He will very much be missed by many, including me. My heart goes out to the family.
