1942 – 2025
Dennis Allan West passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the West Parry Sound Health Centre at the age of 82.
Born in Parry Sound, Ontario, in 1942, Dennis built a life rooted in family, service, and the natural beauty of Northern Ontario. A proud sailor with the Canadian Coast Guard, Dennis dedicated his working years to the safety of others and the waters he loved. After retirement, he embraced the simple joys of life—fishing, camping, scenic drives through the Muskokas, and favorite meals like Chinese food and, of course, fish and chips. Dennis had a quick wit, a practical mind, and kind heart. He was known for his fond greetings—“What’s up, kid?” to his adult children/grandchildren and a playful “Hey Flossy!” to his wife, greetings that brought smiles to many. He cherished time with his family and his faithful dog Duffy, above all else.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances; sons Rick (Penny) and Rob; and grandchildren Liam, Paige, Teah, Noah, and Rhys. Dennis will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Doug (May), Winnie, Ken (Jenny), Mark (Marg), Vern (Sonja), Carol (Gord), Gerry (Joan), Bob (Gertie), Jack (Bess), Arnold (Rose), Glen (Elsie), Glenna (Tom), Ted, Patti (Dan), and Danny (Josselyne).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the Church of the Redeemer in Rosseau, Ontario. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Plan International Canada in Dennis’s memory. He was a longtime sponsor of two children through this organization, a cause close to his heart. Alternatively, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are encouraged.
Dennis will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

To Fran, Rick and Rob and families. I am so sad to read of the passing of Dennis. Scouting first brought us into a friendship developed as Rick and Rob actively (very actively) participated in scouting activities, such as camping, canoeing, backpacking, winter camping, and being members of our contingent to both world Jamborees and Provincial Jamborees. The West family support to our Foley cub, scout and venturer scout groups helped make these activities a reality then and great memories now.
