In the afternoon of Sunday, September 27th, 2026 Christina Bossart died at home from complications resulting from a recent surgery. Her passing was sudden and shocking for her family, but as she did constantly throughout her life, she embodied hope and love in her last moments.
Always selfless and kind since childhood, she had just begun a new phase of her life seeking a new path of learning while living closer to family. While her light here on Earth has dimmed, her dedication to humanity and community-building will be a torch for the rest of us to carry.
Born in Montreal in 1984, Christina grew up in places across North America, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Ontario. She graduated from Ottawa’s Merivale High School in 2003, and began her post-secondary journey at King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She eventually transferred to Queen’s University in Kingston where she focused on Environmental Studies and Geography, graduating in 2007. While at Queen’s, she served as Assistant News Editor with the Queen’s Journal, which should be no surprise to anyone who’s heard her share energetic stories and deeply informed insights in conversation. She returned to the U.S. in 2008 to begin post-graduate studies in Community and Regional Planning at the University of Texas at Austin. She received her Master of Science degree in 2010, and then returned to Ontario to begin the next stage of her career in Parry Sound. In the years that followed she worked for the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, the Park to Park Trail Association, and other conservation endeavours. Christina was passionate about the natural world and could often be found hiking trails or paddling canoes, all the while sharing these gifts with youth, her family, and the wider community.
It was this passion for young people and community enrichment that led Christina to some of her most renowned work as Camp Director at the Hidden Bay Leadership Camp on Lake Shebeshekong north of Parry Sound. Summer was the most fulfilling time for her, when she welcomed children and youth from across the province and nearby First Nations to celebrate everything the Great Lakes watershed has to offer. Her enthusiasm for everything around her was indeed infectious, and generations of campers will surely carry on her legacy of fostering good relationships with one another and the land.
After decades of putting others first, Christina decided in 2025 that it was time for a new direction and moved to Sudbury to be closer to her sister’s family and begin a new educational journey. She was pursuing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University to become a registered psychotherapist working with youth and young adults doing eco-counselling and therapy outdoors.
Christina is survived by her mother Anne Bossart (Shipman), sister Carla Bossart-Pletzer (Jim Pletzer), nephew and niece Henry and Eliza Pletzer, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father Josef, uncle Leo, and grandparents Leo and Thea Bossart and John and Ruth Shipman.
A public celebration of Christina’s life will take place October 17th, 2026 at Hidden Bay Leadership Camp, 200 Shebeshekong Road in Carling. All are welcome to a visitation and gathering from 1:00-3:00 P.M., with a ceremony to begin at 3:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Christina “Stitch” Bossart Memorial Camper Fund. In the meantime, Christina’s family would be happy to hear from well-wishers who’d like to learn more about her and discuss her spirited legacy. Her lively voice will echo in our ears for as long as we’re here, and we’ll always be grateful to see her in the birds and the trees and remember the tremendous example she set for us all.
Christina was a bright shining light. Her warmth always made me feel at home no matter where I was with her. My time knowing her was short, but I loved her like a sister. I often jokingly referred to Christina as my fairy godmother, and I will always see her that way. Her strength and positive energy will always be my rock. I love you Christina.

Our family is shocked and so deeply saddened by this news. Christina (Stitch) has been an important part of our lives for a decade now. Up until this year we would roll up to camp and Stitch would be there to welcome her Baby Bird. Stitch was absolutely fundamental in helping our daughter become the incredible young woman she is today. I cannot fathom a world without Christina in it. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends. She was a bright light in a darkening world and we will miss her.
