Bucky Salt (Gordon Roger)
Bucky Salt, in his 79th year, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 19th at Princess Margaret Hospital, after a very courageous battle. His best friend and partner, Vonnie, was by his side. During his final day, Bucky was surrounded by his family and love. He was also smudged and cleansed, and was brought a braid of sweetgrass, which he loved for its scent. He held it close and kept it on his chest throughout the day, where it remained.
Born in1946, in Parry Sound, Ontario, Bucky was the son of the late Gordon and Edna Salt. A lifelong presence in the community, he was a well-known and very loved, kind and gentle soul who made friends easily and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Bucky is survived by his partner and best friend, Vonnie, his daughter Tania, and his cherished grandson Trei. He was predeceased by his siblings Merle, Alvin, Allan, Glen, Shirley, and Maxine, and is survived by his brother, Ray. Bucky will be deeply missed by his Rochon family and by his many special, dear friends, both lifelong and newly made.
He will be sorely missed by his Granddog, Zorro, and was predeceased by his cherished animal companions: Mona, Kia, Asta, and Casey.
Bucky loved the outdoors, anything to do with Georgian Bay, and his beloved Parry Sound. He had many interests, and in his earlier years spent many happy hours hunting and fishing with friends, and in later years spent more time golfing.
In keeping with Bucky’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Parry Sound, on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026 from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bucky’s memory may be made to causes dear to his heart: the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, Wasauksing Food Bank, Harvest Share Food Bank, or Valley Mastiff Rescue

Went to school with Bucky and then lost track of him up until the last few years when I would stop and pass the time off day as he was shoveling his driveway or doing something out in the yard. Always new him as the gentle friendly sort. He will be missed. RIP my friend until we meet again.

I’ll always remember Bucky’s laugh…so kind, friendly and fun to be around. Memories of fishing with Bucky when I was younger with my Dad (Gordo) and the Rochon family. I’ll always remember Bucky reeling in 4-5lbs bass from the side of the boat haha. He was so patient fishing. Didn’t even have to cast out. Just dropped his line off the side of the boat.
