Janet and I are sorry to hear of the sudden passing of Andy. I met Andy when we worked at Scotiabank subsequent to his retirement from the OPP and mine from Peel Police. We soon discovered that we both grew up in Thornhill and as kids played hockey against each other in the Church Hockey League. Andy was so grounded and had a fantastic sense of humour and was a joy to be around. He was such an outstanding caring person. Andy was one of the most professional individuals I ever encountered during my career. Andy, (ratchet) truely made a huge contribution to policing and gained many friends while doing so. Debbie and family….I am so shocked to see this tonight. I am so sorry for you and the girls. I met all of you when we became neighbours on Cityview Circle in Barrie in the early 1990s. Andy became a friend and trusted colleague. I retired 2 years before him. Andy always had a smile and was such a positive influence. I am absolutely shocked and saddened by this announcement. I was Andy’s supervisor after being promoted into Bracebridge on Jan 1, 1984, until I was transferred to Rockland in 1987. Andy was an extreme pleasure to work with, very amicable, did his job very well, always had a smile on his face & was a supervisor’s dream to supervise. I never once had to worry about his devotion and dedication to duty or if he was doing things properly. He took assignments without complaining & the list goes on. I did wonder how we were going to fare the early morning when his cruiser was stolen and he cranked off several shots at the l/r tire as he was being dragged through the driver’s door. He made several direct hits of the tire with our old .38s, but they all bounced off, though several pieces of lead were later recovered from inside the hub cap. We later made a plaque from the hub cap and the pieces of lead and presented it to him. Subsequent to the TP 22 being submitted, nothing more was heard on the matter. One for the good guys! The thief must have liked Andy as well because after a short drive down District Speed Rd 4, he returned the cruiser to Andy and handed him the keys, before getting arrested. I’m sure Insp. T helped out on this one. To Andy’s family, my sincerest condolences on your loss of an awesome person. To my good friend Andy, your passing is a sad point in my life. God speed on your trip to be with the Angels, RIP you have earned it and hopefully one day we meet up again on the other side. Jim Martin

In the short period of time that we got to know Andy, he was a good natured, funny, easygoing, helpful, happy person. Steve and Andy would chat on the phone and in no time an hour had passed. I had the pleasure of supervising a first class gentleman and outstanding solid police officer during his days in Physical Surveillance.
